Could you play lacrosse with a stick without a pocket?
Could you ride a bike without an inflated front wheel?
Could you play baseball with a glove that's too small?
Could you play a piano that's out of tune?
Sure, you could do all of that, but the results are less than ideal.
The same is true with using an obsolete ritual. DeMolay International has established that the 15th edition of the ritual is the only one that should be used.
During LeadCon, several of our DeMolays were using 13th, 14th, 14th corrected, and in some cases MATOC judging sheets. A few had never seen the 15th edition. Going forward, the only ritual that should be used is the 15th edition, with the red cover. While the ritual is on the DeMolay app, if a ritual must be used in a chapter meeting it must be in book format.
Though I love our Capital City of Albany, I have no love for unfunded mandates.
Thanks to a generous contribution from the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar, every DeMolay who needs one will be provided a 15th edition ritual.
To facilitate that, please have your chapter advisor and chairman send an email to PWBrusoe@gmail.com listing the number of rituals you need by 12/15/2019. Already have a 15th edition ritual? Great. No problem.
As a reminder, by statute 316.1 each chapter is required to have 10 (ten) copies of the ritual. The goal here is that the chapter will have these on hand in case they need it for a meeting. IF your chapter does not have 10 on hand, please let me know and we'll work something out.
You are free to keep old copies of the ritual, I have a small collection myself, however, they are not to be used for chapter meetings or to be given to the young men to learn the ritual work.
On a closing note, I love our ritual. When the DeMolai Council first met there was no ritual, but "Dad" Land saw the need for something and he had "Dad" Marshall write a ritual. The rest is history. "Dad" Labagh wrote several interesting pieces on this that you should read:
